Get em In …

…said our neighbours before it rains, so we did. What did we have to get in?, our potatoes. These photos were taken a couple of weeks ago and we timed it just right because by the evening it was pouring. Roger dug the furrows and I popped them in. Last year we put our new potatoes in our neighbours field, but we’ve put them in our garden this year so we can eat them over the summer. We still hope to go potato planting with our neighbours in the next couple of weeks, but the ground is still to wet for ploughing. The veg patch is starting to fill up, we’ve planted strawberries, garlic, carrots, radish, onions and rocket so far. Because we’ve had some chilly evenings, sprouting in the greenhouse has been slow, but some of the seeds are starting to come through and we hope to get them in over the next couple of weeks.

  1. Our potatoes have just arrived from the UK with friends, hope to collect them next week. We particularly like Foremost and I have not been able to get them here. We grew bluebell from France last year and they would have been my second choice. What are you growing? Keep well Diane xox

    1. We've got Charlotte's for the summer, Desire for roasts and jackets and Bintje for chips. We've tried so many to find a good chip potato and Bintje passed our taste test. Because we can only find these over the winter we found another called Victoria which is a good 2nd place. It sounds like we eat chips all the time but we don't, but sometimes you just fancy egg and chips x

    1. Thanks Gaynor. We are gradually filling it up. To the left of the potatoes we've planted a wild flower garden (not in view and not much to see yet) and to the right there are onions and Jerusalem artichokes. The rest will go on the other side and we hope to fill that this year x

    1. Love kale, hadn't thought of doing that. I think you can plant that sort of veg anywhere and it will do well x
