We found a Date….

…. but sadly not from the 70’s magazine, but from pages from a newspaper called Le Provencal dated Monday 17th December 1979. The newspaper from Marseille was originally called La Jeune République and was first printed in 1873. The name was then changed to Le Petit Provençal then to Le Provençal and it changed again in 1997 to  La Provence. Racking my brains, I tried to remember what I was doing in 1979. I was 19, had started a computer course so I could get a better job, flew for the first time to Canada with my future husband and his family, even though I didn’t know he would be then and saw Led Zeppelin at Knebworth. The photo below of me and my sisters was taken in the 70’s but I don’t what year. I love this photo, great smiles and a nice range of 70’s fashions, flares, maxi skirt and dress plus clogs What were you doing in 1979??

  2. Wow 1979, I moved to South Africa from then what was then Rhodesia, and started work at the biggest Horse hospital in Johannesburg. 1981 I met Nigel early in the year and in August we were married! Memories.
Love the photo of the 3 of you. The paper cuttings are interesting. Have a good day Diane xx

    1. I'm impressed that you remembered your number plate. I passed my test in 1980 and my first car was a blue Escort which Roger said was a pile of s**t. It didn't start, the petrol tank was leaking and it was rusty. Not a good first buy x

  5. "...and saw Led Zeppelin at Knebworth."
Only Zeppelin concert I ever made... and Fairport Convention, too!!
Not the only one of theirs... Cropredy saw to that!!
    Yes, I was there somewhere....
probably trying to have a leak...
queues for the loos as long as the queues to get in....
    and that was the blokes!!
That hadn't changed for the Purple concert I saw there in '85....
the only Deep Purple concert I got to, as well...
and all I really remember of that was the wet...
and spending almost all the time sitting...
under the sheet of polyethene we'd brought to sit on!
    Ahh, Knebworth!!
I wonder if it has something to do with my development....
of an obsession with the weather?
Or was it just that outdoor concerts in the UK are almost invariably....
    SOPPIN' WET!!

    1. Oh my goodness, those toilets were grim, we remember them well but not in a good way. It's the only outside concert I've been to, but Rogers seen the Rolling Stones at Bristol and Chuck Berry in London.
