    2. Kerry, if it is quite shady down by the lavoir, that would increase the likelyhood of it being C.virgo...
      they prefer the slower, shady waters... we get both here at La Forge... the Virgo up near the wier where it is quite well wooded... and Splendens in the open, faster waters... near the kitchen window...
      I could watch them for hours....
      which is why work always takes longer than planned!!

    DAMSEL!
    And a superb photo at that...
    this is the female of either the Beautiful Demoiselle [Calopteryx virgo]... or the Banded Demoiselle [C. splendens]...
    because the wings are rather brownish, I would hazard a guess at C.virgo.
    Nice...
