Veg Patch!!

The first thing we decided to tackle was the veg patch, it was overgrown with ivy and nettles plus veg that had gone to seed. We hadn't DSC02753

brought any tools with us and all we could find was an old fork without a handle!! The soil had been rotovated so the weeds came out fairly easily. Thankfully we had a wheelbarrow, so we could make the zillion trips to compost corner. We spent just under 2 days pulling out all the weeds by hand and I think we did a pretty good job, look at the difference. We left in some parsley, marigolds, rhubarb, beans, tomatoes and potatoes. Hopefully, when we arrive back in July, will we have the makings of a small dinner. We are so looking forward to planting more veg and not replying on the supermarket. But, I dread to think how many weeds will have reared their heads when we come back. Next time, will have the rotovator and the mower with us as our grass needs a serious haircut.
The cherries were just ripening when we left but not ready to eat. I’m sure the birds will enjoy them though.
We are off home tomorrow and will be back in mid July with the first of our furniture. Our next posting will be then. See you soon x

  1. The parsley we 'pinched' from your garden is not very happy but it is not dead so I am hoping we may get some seed if nothing else. I am very jealous of your vegetable garden despite all the work that beds doing at this stage. See you very soon with the first move. Take care D & N xx

    2. No worries Diane, I knew what you meant :) I hope the parsley picks up, but you are always welcome to pinch some more. We are really looking forward to planting all year round, and not having to rely on the supermarket x
