The Lavoir at Sompt

We came across these 3 beautiful lavoirs set in pretty grounds, on a drive around getting to know the area. For those that don't know what a lavoir is, it's the place where the local ladies would come to wash their clothes. I haven't been able to find much information about the lavoirs. I've read that they were probably built in the 18th century and rebuilt in the 20th century and the River Sompt supplies the water for them. There appears to be a walk/cycle ride running behind the lavoirs which we need to find out more about. It’s such a peaceful place and a lovely place to sit and relax.

  1. Hope that you will not be washing in the lavoirs, but of course if you can get a few people to join you think how your French will improve :-) D & N
